Our knowledgable guide will take us on a trip to see the riches of the real Crete hidden behind the tourist faηade. Our journey takes us through picturesque landscapes and villages to the heart of an area called Apokoronas.

Our first stop is the village GAVALOCHORI with its Historical Folklore Museum that  introduces us to the manufacturing traditions of Crete with displays of lace making and stone work. After a short drive through magnificent countryside we arrive in VAMOS which is the capital of the county of Apokoronas. The village dates from the 9th century and nowadays a co-operative has made their aim the protection of the traditions and the development of the region. A walk through the narrow streets will give you a taste of a once great past and you have the impression that time stands still. Our next stop will be the beautiful village of KEFALAS with a chance to see its historical Byzantine churches. KALAMITSI-AMIGDALI is a village well known for its silkworm breeding and our stop here will give us the chance to view the production of silk in the traditional Cretan method.

A few minutes drive further on will take us to Kournas Lake where there is a choice of several tavernas to buy lunch. KOURNAS LAKE is the only lake with fresh water in Crete and is set in a landscape of unique beauty. At this stop there is the oppurtunity to swim and hire a pedalo. On our return our last stop is PEMONIA a village famous for its  chair makers and basket weavers. Here we have can watch the workers during their production of  these traditional handicrafts.
